Garoppolo Sees Game Action in Patriots Blowout WinOctober 27, 2014 - Author: John-Mark and Chuck Mallory - Comments are closed
Jimmy Garoppolo got playing time in his second-ever NFL game on Sunday during the New England Patriots’ 51-23 rout of the Chicago Bears. Garoppolo was inserted into the game late in the fourth quarter when the result was already clear. Although he only played on one offensive series, Garoppolo completed all three of his passes for 33 yards on the drive.
Garoppolo likely won’t see a lot of playing time this year as he still sits behind future hall of fame quarterback Tom Brady. However, Garoppolo continues to take advantage of the opportunities he’s given and show that he can play when he is inserted into the game. It says a lot that the Patriots are trusting a rookie as their only other quarterback on the roster besides Brady. If Brady goes down with an injury, it will be Garoppolo’s ship to run.
One more bizarre note from this game came when Garoppolo was leading the Patriots down the field in the fourth quarter. With the game already decided, Bears defensive end Lamarr Houston sacked Garoppolo for an 11-yard loss. However, Houston got a little too worked up celebrating the meaningless sack and was injured during his celebration. Houston tore his ACL and is out for the rest of the season.
The Patriots will face a tough test against the Denver Broncos during week 9 of the NFL season, so Garoppolo likely won’t see playing time in that game. However, Garoppolo will get plenty more chances to prove himself this season so keep checking jimmygaroppolo.net for more news and updates!
