Jimmy Garoppolo continued to impress NFL analysts and fans alike as he led the San Francisco 49ers to their second straight win this season, beating the Houston Texans 26-16 on the road. Garoppolo and the offense controlled the time of possession just like they did last week in Chicago, with the 49ers controlling the ball for 34:49 of a possible 60 minutes of game time. Garoppolo again set a career-high in passing yards with 334 yards this week, after throwing for 293 yards last week in Chicago. He also threw for one touchdown and one interception. The 49ers are now 3-10 after starting the season 1-10.

The Texans kept it close for most of the game, until Garoppolo found his tight end Garrett Celek for a 6-yard touchdown pass with less than two minutes left in the 3rd quarter. That touchdown, the second for Garoppolo as a 49er, made the game 23-16 and put San Francisco in control. Garoppolo also completed a 61-yard pass to Celek earlier in the drive to set up a red zone opportunity for his offense.

After some mistakes early, the 49ers defense made some big plays down the stretch to protect the lead and secure the win. The Texans had a shot to tie the game up late in the 4th quarter, but star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins fumbled the ball after a catch and the 49ers recovered. That set up a 41-yard field goal by kicker Robbie Gould with less than two minutes left to put the 49ers up 26-16 and seal the game. The Texans also had to turn to 3rd string quarterback T.J. Yates after their backup Tom Savage was injured early in the game. Texans’ star rookie quarterback DeShaun Watson is out for the year with a torn ACL suffered earlier this season.

The 49ers got a solid effort on offense from running back Carlos Hyde, who rushed 14 times for 78 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is quickly becoming Garoppolo’s favorite target as he caught six passes for 106 yards this week after a big game last week in Chicago. Garoppolo did a good job spreading the ball around, completing at least two passes to seven different receivers. Garoppolo commented on helping the 49ers have some hope after a dismal start to the season after the win.

Jimmy Garoppolo“I’ve only been here for a short time so I don’t know exactly what has changed and what hasn’t, but I think we have a little bit of momentum with us right now and I think we just have to keep plucking away day-by-day and just keep getting better,” Garoppolo said after the game. “That’s what it’s all about, especially this time of year. We only have three games left now so we just have to keep getting better and better and good things will happen.”

Next week will be a big week for Garoppolo, as he makes his first home start as a San Francisco 49er when the team takes on the Tennessee Titans at Levi’s Stadium. The fans will surely be pumped up to see their possible QB of the future suit up at home for the first time. Keep checking jimmygaroppolo.net for more updates and news about Jimmy Garoppolo!

Jimmy Garoppolo Leads 49ers to 15-14 Win in Chicago

Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers went into Chicago this weekend wanting to show they were a new-look team with their new starting quarterback. In a back-and-forth battle, Garoppolo showed that he could lead a 49ers team that only had one win prior to Sunday’s game. Although the 49ers offense didn’t find the end zone at all during the game, they came away with a 15-14 win over the Chicago Bears led by Garoppolo’s ability to move the ball downfield through the air. It’s a huge win for the 49ers, made a bit sweeter by the fact that a lot of Garoppolo’s family and friends were in the stands to watch the Chicagoland native lead his new team to victory.

JImmy GaroppoloThe 49ers offense looked to be more efficient than it had been all year with Garoppolo leading the way in the passing game. The 49ers dominated time of possession all game long with Garoppolo leading long offensive drives that ended in field goals. The 49ers ended up leading time of possession 38:47 to 21:13. Garoppolo put up a career high in yards thrown, finishing 26-37 for 293 yards and an interception. It’s worth noting that the interception was not at all Garoppolo’s fault. He actually completed a pass to wide receiver Louis Murphy, but Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller made a great play to take the ball right out of Murphy’s hands after he made the catch. It was recorded as an interception. Garoppolo helped the 49ers young wide receivers put up big numbers on the way to the win. Rookie Trent Taylor had six catches for 92 yards, and made four crucial catches on third down plays that kept those drives alive and led to three field goals. Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin had 99 yards on a career-high eight catches.

JImmyGAll of the 49ers points were scored on field goals by kicker Robbie Gould, who was released by the Bears in 2016. Gould made field goals of 33, 28, 35, 34, and 24 yards respectively. The 49ers started their final drive of the game on their own eight yard line with about five minutes remaining in the game. Garoppolo, along with some strong running from running back Carlos Hyde, led the team all the way down to the Bears six-yard line to set up the game-winning field goal with only eight seconds remaining. Garoppolo made a key 33-yard throw to Taylor right before the two-minute warning to get the ball into the red zone and set the 49ers up for the win. Overall, it was a great performance by Garoppolo and the 49ers, who are now 2-10 on the season. The 49ers defense limited the Bears to just 147 total yards on offense, which was a big factor in the victory as well.

JimmyGThe 49ers will travel to Houston next week to take on the Texans. Although the Texans defense has suffered some injuries this year to key players like J.J. Watt, it will still be a tough test for Garoppolo and the 49ers offense. What is different now is that this 49ers team has shown that they can move the ball with some confidence through the air. The future is looking a lot brighter in San Francisco for this team, and a huge part of it is the play of Garoppolo.

“I tried to say all week it was just a normal game, but obviously I’ve never come back to Chicago like this, so it was pretty exciting for me,” Garoppolo said after the game. “It was one of the more fun games I’ve been a part of.”

Garoppolo’s star continues to rise as he is finally able to be the sole quarterback and leader of an NFL team. Keep checking here for more updates on the quarterback and the 49ers.
